Parawing

(3 products)

Parawing (also known as parawing foiling) is a hybrid water foiling discipline that combines elements of wingfoiling, prone/downwind SUP, kitesurfing, and paragliding. It is based on a lightweight, paraglider-like wing (small, uninflated) operated with a short bar, designed to generate power in the wind and allow the rider to glide on a hydrofoil.

PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGES

  • A parawing allows you to effortlessly approach the wind and then quickly collapse to ride waves or downwind currents.
  • The color-coded control bar, bridle lines, and prominent leading edge make it easy to identify and deploy quickly when needed.
  • Its compact size and easy deployment make it ideal for spots where paddling is required.
  • Technology derived from the design of foil paragliders and kites provides stability and performance at all riding angles, even when depowered.
  • Accessible performance for riders of all levels.

EASY-TO-USE FEATURES

  • A refined bridle system keeps the sail profile clean and generates smooth power for easy foil control.
  • Allows you to control the direction with your fingertips for easy tacking or sailing downwind.
  • No tip collapse occurs, even under high stress.
  • You can quickly save it to go surfing waves or swells.

ORIGINS

Based on years of experience in paragliding and foil kites, the parawings have been designed for both easy handling and high-performance freeriding.

  • Stability when depowering is key, refined through experience gained in development programs such as snowkiting.
  • Reinforcements in the leading edge profile maintain aerodynamic integrity when depowering.
  • The balanced cell and rib construction prevents tip collapse, achieving stable and comfortable riding.
  • Transverse Sail Shaping along the leading edge creates a cleaner surface in the most critical area of the profile, reducing turbulence and improving the lift-to-drag ratio for greater performance.
  • Smooth handling saves energy and makes sailing more enjoyable.

HOW DOES IT COMPARE TO WINGFOILING OR KITESURFING?

  • A parawing generates similar power, for size, to an inflatable wingfoil, but flies more like a kite thanks to its bridled structure.
  • It offers a stronger initial downwind thrust than a wingfoil.
  • To initiate and lift the foil, let the board drift in the natural downwind direction the parawing initially pulls. Once underway, use the bar to gently control the power and adjust the angle to progress upwind.
